Our tenth, and final, core belief is about the sacred responsibility we have to young athletes.

Adults take on the role of coach for many different reasons, and if you ask our coaches why they are coaching, you will get many different answers. But with all the coaches that work with Delta, one idea stands out: we want to help young people achieve something great, and that greatness is a community effort.

Oftentimes you will see a coach claim the success of an individual athlete. Respectfully, we disagree.

Athletes achieve their own success, and we should be grateful if we are able to help them in any way on their journey.

Our ninth core belief is about winning over time.

The cautionary stastic from the American Association of Pediatrics is that nearly "70 % of kids drop out of organized sports by age 13 and the so-called 'professionalization of youth sports' can’t be understated as a significant factor why".

While the coaches and staff ath Delta Atheltics are professionals, we understand that requiring professional levels of commitment of young athletes can lead to negative outcomes.

That's why we work hard to make our training something that young athletes want to attend, and more importantly, that they can take a break from if they are getting burned out.

We believe you can take a break, because the game (and Delta!) will always be there when you return.

Our eighth core belief is proper learning environm

Our eighth core belief is proper learning environments.

All too ofter, coaches can get hyper-focused on the details of volleyball. Strategy. Tactics. Technique.

But athletes dont sign up to do drills. They come to play.

And wouldn't you know it, the scientific studies have proven: playing a game is the best way to learn to play a game.

At Delta, of course we work on fundamentals; and of course we talk about strategy, and positioning, and tactics. But the training isn't really useful until you can put it in practice.

And the only way to put it in practice, is to play.

Our seventh core belief is about how to develop a passion for learning.

While we love volleyball and all the joys and challenges that come with it, we realize that at the end of it all, it's just a game.

But by using the game as a labarotory for learning, we can inspire a generation of young people towards lifelong achievement. Because as we have all experienced, we are most proud of the things we have earned, rather than the things we have been given.

Time is running out to sign up for Delta Athletics

Time is running out to sign up for Delta Athletics' very first Coached Training League! First contact in the court is this weekend and practice starts on Tuesday! This eight week program is designed to get you comfortable playing on a team and working with great coaches, but enrollment is only open until Sunday!

Our sixth core belief is about the impact we make in other people's lives.

Most of us can remember a moment when a mentor or coach said something that had a profound effect upon us. For most of us, we can remember these worderfully positive mentorship experiences, and we hope to give our children similar opportunities.

But far too many of us have had experiences where a coach, teacher, parent, or mentor said something that injured us in a way we weren't expecting, and it affected us for years, if not for a lifetime.

At Delta Atheltics, we understand what a sacred role it is to be a coach and/or mendor to a young person, and we take that role seriously.

Our fifth belief is about what we focus on to deli

Our fifth belief is about what we focus on to deliver growth. We believe that too often athletes, coaches, and parents get too invested in the win/loss column. While wins and losses are certainly a measure of team success, they a poor indiicator of individual growth.

We believe that we will return greater individual results when we focus upon a process of development. Because if we do the small things well, the big things take care of themselves.

Our fourth core belief is about community. While we love the connectedness of teams and the goals that they set, we also try to educate athletes that the team across the net is not your enemy, they are just your opponent.

In fact, the person across the net from you holds the same passion that you do. So let's remember to leave the game on the court, and celebrate the joys we have in common.
