VI. Rotation

In order to ensure proper gameplay for all athletes, we allow two different types of rotation/substitution strategies: Traditional and Continuous. Each coach must declare which style will be used for their team before the beginning of the match and must maintain the declared style throughout all games in the match.

Option a: Traditional Substitution
  • A player in the starting lineup may leave the game and re-enter two times per game, but only in their previous position in the lineup.
  • The player must report to the official before entering the game.

  • A substitute must report to the official, during a dead ball, before entering the game. The substitute will say their number and say the number of the player they are replacing.
  • A player may not be substituted out in the position during their serve, unless required by injury.

Option B: Continuous rotation
  • Before the match, the coach will decide a rotational lineup that will include all players present for the match, and the position location (1-6) where the rotational substitutions will enter/leave the game. This rotation and position designation must be submitted to the official for use during the match. This will be the order in which they enter and leave the game.
  • Upon rotation during a dead ball, both the entering player and exiting players must report to the to the official and announce their entrance/exit.
